Personal bandwidth management software recognized in wireless and networking category
SAN JOSE, Calif., — November 26, 2007 — Propel Software Corporation (www.propel.com), a market leader in Internet acceleration and network optimization solutions, has received a 2007 Emerging Tech award from the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal. Propel® PBM™, the first software to provide personal bandwidth management for individual PC users, was selected out of three finalists in the wireless and networking category.
Propel PBM, which the company unveiled in September at the DEMOfall conference in San Diego, is designed to optimize performance of applications that use the Internet by automatically prioritizing both inbound and outbound traffic on a user’s PC. The software gives precedence in utilizing bandwidth to time-sensitive applications such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), video calls and online gaming, while lower-priority applications such as file transfers run in the background. Propel PBM includes a traffic monitor that allows users to see applications and their use of bandwidth in real time.
“If any publication has its fingers on the pulse of technology, it’s the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal, so this award is a tremendous honor for us,” said David Murray, co-founder, president and CEO of Propel. “Most people are unaware that they have multiple applications on their PC competing for the use of their personal Internet connection. Propel PBM provides real-time monitoring of bandwidth use by application, tracks cumulative bandwidth use by application, and automatically ensures that time-sensitive applications have access to bandwidth when they need it.”
